The evidence of salvation is a transformed life. Without obedience to Christ we cannot claim to be a His disciples. If we are not His disciples, then we are not actually saved. “Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Bill Hull, in his book ‘The Complete Book of Discipleship,’ states, “The American gospel teaches that faith equals agreement with a set of religious facts. Believing in Jesus has no meaning if we don’t follow him in discipleship. Believing without discipleship isn’t believing, it’s agreeing to a set of facts about a religious figure. The problem we face is that we have taught a faith that doesn’t transform people….We’ve made the test for salvation doctrinal rather than behavioral, ritualizing it with walking the aisle, praying to receive Christ, or signing a doctrinal statement.Perhaps we’ve made it so easy to get into “the life” that we’ve made it nearly impossible to live the life.”

When we are born of the Spirit of God we are united with Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. We become partakers of His divine nature. (2 Peter1:4) From that moment forward we begin to manifest the very life and nature of God Himself. The nature of God is first and foremost love, for God is love. (1 John 4:7-8 NKJV) Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

A tree is known by its’ fruit. As a disciple of Jesus Christ, we are expected to bear fruit that is consistent with the character of Christ. Ultimately we will be judged in accordance with the fruit our lives produce. The fruit God is looking for is that which is consistent with the Character of Christ Himself.

In order to walk in the newness of life that we have as a result of our union with Christ, we must live free from our past. We can never walk in the liberty we have in Christ if we are forever looking back. You can never live in victory until you learn to let go of your past. You must let go of the sin that you once found so appealing, as well as the injustice, pain and wounds that occurred.
