Proverbs 3:7-8 (NKJV) Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, And strengthto your bones.
When sin entered the world it brought with it human independence, arrogance and pride. When God confronted Adam about his sin after he had eaten from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, rather than humbling himself before God, he began to attempt to justify himself. The pride that came to birth in Adam’s heart tried to pass the buck to Eve, and even to God.
Genesis 3:13 (NKJV) Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
Man has been attempting to justify his sin ever since. Like the modern day atheists who claim to deny the very existence of God, and yet continually accuses God of all the woes of human suffering. They like Adam refuse to admit that man is squarely to blame.
Only when we humble ourselves, and admit that we are utterly hopeless, and helpless apart from the love and mercy of God, can God pour his love and forgiveness into our hearts. God desires to bless all people, regardless of their behavior, but He will never allow human arrogance to determine the rules of engagement. It is His way or no way! No matter how much people may resist this notion, it is a fact that we must readily accept if we are ever to experience the fullness of this amazing salvation that is only made available through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:18-20 (NLT) The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.” So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.
