A recent news article caught my eye, involving the Bruce Vento Elementary School in St. Paul, Minnesota. Principle Scott Masini determined that the celebration of so called ‘dominant holidays’ like Christmas and Thanksgiving should be ended, because in his opinion, they “suppress” the views of others.

In a letter to parents he states, “I have come to the difficult decision to discontinue the celebration of the dominant holidays until we can come to a better understanding of how the dominant view will suppress someone else’s view.”

Now while it may seem trite to some to even comment on this less than earth shaking decision. I would like to use this as an example of an ongoing national and cultural shift that is taking place in this country. There is a disturbing yet growing trend by liberal progressives to move us away from our traditional heritage into something that resembles more of an international multicultural type of nation.

While I am all for celebrating diversity, we should not gut our nation of every hint of American tradition in order to cater to those who may not have come from these traditions.

America use to be a melting pot, where people from other nations came and became part of the American landscape. Now far too many like Mr. Masini, imagine that we are a salad bowl. They hold the notion that the Judeo-Christian values and heritage of America are inherently racist and suppressive to others.

These holidays have been an integral part of our nation’s heritage for many generations. I wonder if he would also consider the celebration of the 4th of July and our independence as suppressive as well.

Let’s be honest. Mr. Masini’s actual reason for removing these holidays is just an example of liberal progressive’s attempt to strip this country of all Christian symbols and ideals.

In schools all across this nation we are seeing the ongoing promotion of Islam and other religions, while Christians are constantly harassed or even expelled if they attempt to express their Christian views.

Most public schools have replaced Thanksgiving and Christmas with the terms ‘fall and winter vacations.’ Yet Thanksgiving and Christmas are both legal holidays sanctioned by the federal government. Many school administrations would have their students believe that the very mention of Christianity to be a violation of the separation of church and state, that somehow schools are ‘religion-free zones.’

It is really impossible to honestly teach American history and our rise to global prominence apart from the integral role of Christianity. Still many anti-Christian, liberal progressives, would have everyone believe that we are a secular nation, with little or no Christian influence upon our laws and institutions.

“A lie told often enough becomes the truth.” Vladimir Lenin (former Russian Communist leader)

Noah Webster, the father of American education believed that the source of true liberty to be the Christian religion. In 1802 in “An Oration on the Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence”

He stated: “If there is a possibility of founding a perfectly free government, and giving it permanent duration, it must be raised upon the pure maxims, and supported by the undecaying practice, of that religion, which breathes ”peace on earth, and good will to men.” That religion [Christianity] is perfectly republican . . . . it is calculated to humble the pride and allay the discontents of men. . . . It restrains the magistrate from oppression, and the subject from revolt . . . . it secures a perfect equality of rights, by enjoining a discharge of all social duties, and a strict subordination to law. The universal prevalence of that religion, in its true spirit, would banish tyranny from the earth.” http://providencefoundation.com/?page_id=1948

In other words, Webster believed that you could not maintain freedom without the influence provided and maintained by Christianity.

The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.” Abraham Lincoln

What we are experiencing is death by a thousand cuts. While these decisions may seem small and insignificant by themselves, when added together they eventually will become just as lethal as cutting a major artery. The end result of both will cause death. The first is just not initially as noticeable.

We have the oldest standing constitution in the world, founded upon biblical principles. Yet by the ongoing undermining of our Christian heritage we will eventually have a generation that destroys these foundations. When and if this should happen, it will most definitely spell the end of America.
