Denying our human desires comes hand in hand with following after Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. This stands in direct opposition to the self-serving me-first message that the world around us constantly promotes.
We cannot serve two masters. We cannot serve Christ while clinging to our own human passions and carnal desires. Yet many who profess to be Christians imagine that they can hold onto their sin and live like the world around them while serving Christ.
This is the equivalent of marrying someone while living in an extramarital affair with someone else.
Repentance is one of the foundational principles of the Christian faith. If we are not willing to humble ourselves, do an about face and turn from our sin, we cannot claim that we are a disciple of Jesus Christ.
One of the proofs of our salvation is a transformed life.
