Right in Their Own Eyes

Right in Their Own Eyes

In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.  Judges 21:25

As I ponder this passage of Scripture it becomes exceedingly clear that this same mentality is prevalent in today’s postmodern culture.

There are so many people who simply spew forth statements about God, based upon nothing more than their own opinion. Many of these same people make it very clear that they believe that the Bible is simply a bogus book, written by man, with no authority at all.

I find it ironic that those who are so quick to dismiss the teachings of the Scripture seem to speak as if they actually understand what God thinks, or teaches. They seem to imagine that their opinion is equal with the authority of God Himself. Yet they give no other substantiation for their claims other than their web blogger name.

What people often fail to realize is that their opinion is not equal with the authority of the Bible. It is just their opinion, and nothing more. They have not stood for centuries against every onslaught imaginable, as the Bible has. Their claims have no 300 plus prophetic fulfillments like Scriptures to substantiate their claims. They have not risen from the dead as Christ, or performed a single miracle. They have not saved a single life by their power, or transformed nations through their workings. I think you get my point!

Now people are certainly entitled to their opinions, and will continue to give them. It’s just important to remind them that the next time they attempt to espouse what God thinks, or His attitudes they need to remember that unless they are substantiating their claims with the clear and concise teachings of the Bible, they do not speak for God.

2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NLT) For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths.
