From the inception of this nation, our leaders have called upon its citizenry to seek God, and implore His help during times of trouble. God has answered, and delivered us from tragedy beyond measure time and again. Yet this seems to have become a forgotten part of our country’s history.
Many of today’s leaders speak of the power of the human spirit, and give us pep talks about how we will prevail if we have faith in one another. Their solution to the perplexity of our problems is not humility, repentance, and reliance upon God. That seems to be far too archaic for the new enlightenment. Instead, they believe that mankind can overcome any obstacle through simple perseverance, and human ingenuity.
Unfortunately, most Americans have abandoned God, and instead are looking to the government to heal the environment, restore the economy, care for their families, and save them from all of today’s evils.
At a time when we should be calling upon God to forgive, and heal us, we are continuing to witness the amazing arrogance, and absolute stupidity of many in positions of power.
For example, recently, Federal Judge, Barbara Crabb ruled the National Day of Prayer to be unconstitutional, stating that it violates the first amendment. Yet one week after the passage of the first Amendment President George Washington, at the request of the U.S. Congress, declared a national day of thanksgiving and prayer on October 3, 1789.
We continue to hear political leaders conclude their speeches with the phrase, “God bless America.” I believe that God has blessed this nation, yet we have failed to bless God! How can we expect God to continue to bless this nation when we blaspheme His holy name, remove His laws from our places of learning, and continue to attack the very acknowledgement of His existence?
The following is a timeless quote engraved upon the Jefferson Memorial. “God, who gave us life, gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever…” Thomas Jefferson
The United States of America has been preserved these many years because we have honored God. Yes we have had our faults, and many failures, but in all of this we have honored Him as the sovereign and great God.
If we continue to show contempt for His laws and precepts we will go the way of every other nation that has turned from Him. We will reap the consequences of our own moral depravity, and great will be our fall.
It is time to put our hope in God, and call upon Him to have mercy upon us, and forgive us for our arrogance, and many sins. God alone is the hope of nations, and the only one who can deliver us from the evils of our times.
